I've been collecting comics long enough now that I think I can reliably say what books are going to make it and what books won't last past 10 issues. Avengers Academy falls into the latter category. Don't get me wrong, it is an okay book. Thing is, when you start a brand new series, using brand new characters, piggybacking on the coat tails of one of the most storied franchises in comic book history...well, it better be better than okay!
As the young team is put through their paces under the careful tutelage of some senior Avengers, they plan their revenge on Norman Osborn. Osborn; who is currently locked up in the Raft, is responsible for torturing and manipulating these youngsters for his own gains and now they want some payback.
Like most young superheroes who charge in head-first, it appears the kids may have bitten off more than they can chew, once coming face to face with Osborn in the Raft.
Mike McKone's art was very safe and told the story well and Christos Gage is veteran enough to capably find these characters' voices. Overall, the story may be moving a little too slowly for the general reading public's taste. I know we are only three issues in, but nothing major has really happened yet.
I'll stick with the book until it is over, but I have a feeling that won't be for too much longer.
