I was a little tentative to reading any further into this series after the first issue came across as a bit
'full on' with it's espionage tendencies, which were so heavy I thought it became slightly unappealing.
But regardless, I decided to pick it up after reading 4 or 5 reviews giving this second issue a lot of high praise.
What can I say, I was interested as I always am!
To my surprise, this issue wasn't half bad. In fact, I thought it gave the reader a new perspective when looking at the Marvel Universe as a whole.
By this I mean that Hickman has reinvented and redesigned Hydra to act as the driving force behind what was the most influential superhero police force on Earth (S.H.I.E.L.D).
I personally thought that from this single issue alone, Hickman did a brilliant job making Hydra seem less of a joke organisation compared to how they have been written before.
He made Hydra seem pure evil, ruthless and down right scary.
I really like this new aspect of Hydra now, it makes you realise (and what with the added face that they have been working behind S.H.I.E.L.D for a long time) that Hydra are not the hilariously dumb criminal organisation that they've always been portrayed as before.
Hydra is something to be taken seriously.
I wasn't so impressed with the actual Secret Warriors bit of this issue, with that unappealing rally of droolish banter between Nick and Daisy, and then again with the team at the Chinese restaurant. I didn't impress me or get me hooked that much. But it was easy reading.
I'm more interested in the Hydra aspect of this series, I really want to see where Hickman plans on taking them! This could get really really exciting and evil!
I loved the ending to this issue as well, with the return of one of my favourite villains who has had encounters with Nick Fury before. The inevitable confrontation between the two will obviously happen in due course, and I cannot wait for it to come around!
Bring on the blades and guns!
