Fred van Lente has really hit a homerun with this series. I've always had a special spot in my heart for Taskmaster, but have never really understood why. Van Lente has made it abundantly clear to me. Taskmaster is a very complex, very dangerous killer!
I wasn't expecting this mini-series to have anything to do with Taskmaster's origins. I expected it to be a fluffy five issues worth of post SIEGE garbage. And had somebody told me it was going to be "origin-based", I might have taken a pass on the book altogether. In fact though, this is not even close to fluffy, and van Lente has masterfully woven in Taskmaster's origin to the story.
Taskmaster continues to try to understand why he is being framed by the secret terrorist organization known as the ORG. A further examination of his powers though, reveals that Taskmaster has major memory problems due to his powers. Just walking down the street involves absorbing so much information that he often doesn't know if he should turn left or right. Amazing, amazing idea!
Jefte Palo's art is absolutely perfect for the script and really fits the Mexican environment well. He's the kind of guy that makes skulls look really cool, over, and over again.
So not only do we learn about Taskmaster's skull mask, but we are treated to a last page appearance by none other than nick Fury himself. And you know when Nick gets involved, things get complicated.
I highly advise anyone who is a fan of comics, to pick this book up. It is first class comic book reading all around!
