I have no idea how to write this review. Parts I liked and parts I disliked. There is either promise with the ending or absolute disaster...
So bear with me on this one...
There are two artists on this book and I like one of them...which one though, I have no idea. I guess if I was a bigger fan I would do a little more research. But one of Stephen Segovia or Paco Diaz Luque is very skilled and the other is a little too "posed" for my liking.
Growing up, I always pictured Wolverine as the world's most dangerous man. As such, I always assumed (especially based on his vast background and training) that he was a lethally trained killing machine. So much so that the claws were almost unnecessary. Lately (past 10 years), I've felt like Wolverine has been written as sloppy, reckless and raw. This drove me crazy. I want Wolverine the highly trained Samurai, Ninja, Assassin. * Seeing Wolverine return to his roots and train with a Kung-Fu master was sweet. The fact that he was trained in 3 panels, not so sweet.
*Wolverine facing a gang of super-powered Kung-Fu masters, super awesome. The fact that he beats them is 5 seconds the second time round, stupid.
* Having Wolverine return to Chinatown to settle an old debt is classic Wolverine storytelling. Having him now assume a leadership role within Chinatown.......not too sure if this is a good idea yet.
Do you see what I mean? This issue was either pretty good or pretty bad. I'm just not sure yet.
I guess only time will tell...
