It is a pleasure to read an outstanding comic about a non-traditional character in a very common setting as an uncommon hero with a common criminal past.
Our incognito man will be the target of a very determined criminal with telepathic powers. The fact that his nemesis is planning his revenge from prison brings a set of challenges to his revenge that should tax Brubaker’s ability to carry the plotting to places yet to be explored.
The mask man’s fantasies become reality as he protects a co-worker that normally ignores him unless he is wearing a mask and is saving her from a rapist which turns out to be a planned date because she is herself a seeker of masked avengers to satisfy her desires. Brubaker brings into play the deeper needs of both the masked man and the dames that pursue them, so Incognito is not just about a masked man but about all those people that may carry a mask or some sort of concealing persona.
There are lots of questions yet to be answered as new characters are introduced and pieces of information are laid on our feet. It is this type of development that makes comics interesting and Ed Brubaker like other comic writers that produce creator-owned titles know that to be successful one must deliver an excellent product to the comic reading public; he has done this in this title.
