About Unity 2000

Originally slated as a 6-issue limited series, UNITY 2000 was an ambitious attempt to merge the original Valiant (V1) Universe with the Acclaim (V2) Universe.

Written by Jim Shooter (who many Valiant fans regard as the "father" of Valiant Comics) and drawn by fan-favorite artist Jim Starlin (CAPTAIN MARVEL, WARLOCK), UNITY 2000 first started with small flipbook stories in SHADOWMAN (Vol 3) #3 and #4 and continued into the UNITY 2000 limited series. Fan response to the new relaunched Acclaim titles was lukewarm, and many saw UNITY 2000 as a chance to either bring back the original V1 characters, or find a happy medium where both could coexist.

A black-and-white preview edition of UNITY 2000 #1 was given to readers in advance of the series.

UNITY 2000 #1 features 2 different covers: a standard cover and Dynamic Forces variant cover limited to 2000 with a Certificate of Authenticity.

UNITY 2000 #2 shipped to comic shops polybagged with an insert of the Dynamic Forces exclusive cover included as a bonus.

UNITY 2000 #3 turned out to be not only the final issue in the series, but also one of the last issue published by ACCLAIM COMICS, who stopped publishing comics altogether later that year. Because many copies of UNITY 2000 #3 that were supposed to arrive at comic shops were cancelled and then re-ordered at a lower amount, the print run for issue #3 is exceptionally low, making it extremely sought after by VALIANT and ACCLAIM collectors, along with SHADOWMAN (Vol 3) #6 and ARMORINES (Vol 2) #4.

Valiant fans have access online through various sources to scripts associated with the UNITY 2000 series, including a potential direction for the company that never materialized with a universe comprising of both Valiant (V1) and Acclaim (V2) characters and a new direction.

Jim Starlin's complete unpublished artwork for UNITY 2000 #4, including the cover, sold online for $1000 a few years ago.
