Spidey on the edge of a roof, eating Chinese, under a web umbrella while it is pouring rain… AWESOME! Right from the first panel, this story is cool. Peter Parker reads the paper from a fortune cookie… “Today Will Be Your Lucky Day” is what it said. That sets the tone for the beginning of this story arc.
Now, I don’t know where they are getting these artists, but it is a good thing the stories have been good, to make up for the average artwork. I know art is subjective, but I have a hard time with comic art being to comic-y (does that make sense?). Especially when there is a good story arc involved. Marcos Martin did the work here, and it is not bad, just not my taste. However, that being said, the first panel of art, did pull me into the story. I just had to use my mind to put on a little embellishment. That panel was classic I must say, even if not my style.
The story line is great. Peter Parker decides to take the subway because it is raining. So, he is lucky to find a Metrocard with some cash still on it. And he does meet a beautiful girl on the subway who is wearing just a rain coat. But, his luck is about to change. Of course this subway train is carrying an important jury to an important crime scene. But, the journey is interrupted by (drum roll) an explosion.
This is the first part of the arc, and it set things up nicely and left me wanting more. The ending panel was a shocker for me, and I can’t wait to get the next issue. This has been wonderful storytelling so far. We’ll see how this pans out as the arc moves to the next issue. So far, I am pleased.
