Warren Ellis brings DOOM upon 2099: "ONE NATION UNDER DOOM" has come!

What originally sold me on picking out this particular title had nothing to do with the writer (who just happens to be the amazing Warren Ellis) OR the fact that artist Pat Broderick is still drawing this book.

But it was the design of the cover that sold me.

For the next several issues we see striking covers of DOOM reigning supreme over the US in various forms. In this case, DOOM stands on top of the White House holding the American Flag in hand. It's the prologue to "ONE NATION UNDER DOOM", and DOOM has set his sights on the United States of 2099.

First off, this is really not a book for you if you're not even somewhat familiar with the 2099 titles. The language is different. The characters are different. Even the pace and feel of the book is very different...and perhaps that's why Warren Ellis fits the title so well. Many of the low hanging fruits from various plot lines are tied up and we are introduced to DOOM's cabinet as he moves closer to dominion over the rest of the world. So we've established it's not exactly the best jumping on point, and you'll feel as if you just walked into a movie 40 minutes in.

BUT, my comforted in the fact you've walked into the movie at probably the best time. Things we've never seen DOOM able to accomplish before are happening, and the politics of his actions are just as interesting as his actions themselves. DDOM 2099 is a title you can pretty much ride out until it ends about 2 years later (along with the rest of the 2099 Universe) but you'll enjoy the ride.
