Welcome to SCI

Welcome the world of Super Crises International (SCI). This is not you ordinary work place. The main storyline follows around the new Temp, Tim, as he is introduced to this fascinating world of Super Heroes and Accounting. Wait...accounting? Yes that's right accounting. SCI is the office building behind the Superheroes where it is just a typical day to find your evil genius boss planning to destroy the company, or your having a birthday party for your zombie secretary who is learning not to eat humans, and you even get sexually harassed by that overly confused android.

The trade collects issues 1-4 and throws in some nice sketches by Justin Bleep and some other contributing artists. Overall it is hard for me to say whether I like having the issues more or the trade as each "episode" is self contained. So it reads well both ways but for the price you aren't going to go wrong picking this one up. It is a fresh idea that had me laughing and really enjoying every second of it. There is no let down here. Marcus delivers a great script while Bleep's art style just brings it all to life.

Episode (Issue) #1: We follow Tim on his first day as the new temp at the office. We are treated to an amazing joke on page two that runs through the entire episode. As the story progresses it is just solid joke after solid joke. I never found a dull moment where I wasn't enjoying it. Great build up in this episode to introduce you to almost the entire cast.

Episode #2 In this episode Tim needs to get an approved purchase order from The Wombat, who is the strangest character in the series. Marcus did a great spoof on the Batman in this universe. The central theme of Episode 2 though is everyone preparing for a surprise birthday for Zombor the secretary. It's so hard to give anything away so here's what I will say: A robot sexually harasses a woman, Tim becomes The Thrush against his will and apparently your clones are not covered under the medical plan, who knew?

Episode #3 It's time for the annual SCI Christmas Party! OH yeah! In this episode the office prepares for the Christmas party as secret santa names are drawn and presents distributed an actual crises takes place. The Brotherhood of Industrial Accidents is stealing unactivated Gift Cards so it's up to the heroes to save the day. Tim and Gordon from corporate go with to audit the fight. Gordon makes Tim aware that the company is losing money and something needs to be done. Yet another fine episode. I enjoy the actual Christmas party part where they are all getting drunk. Shocker ending though as we find out that SCI will have to close it's doors due to the money loss.

Episode #4 It is the final days at SCI as all of the characters begin to pack up and get ready to move on. Some plan on going back to their own dimensions, some joining the villain teams and a few are applying at the Sunglass Hut. As our star Tim is packing he comes to learn that Gordon from corporate had been misleading everyone to how much money SCI was losing and of course he swoops in to save the day. I also want to mention that there is a small subplot line that runs through all the issues that comes to fruition at the end that just had me laughing so hard. To me this was by far the funniest and strongest issue of the series.

Artwork: 4 out of 5 Bleep's style fits this series so well. It never gets confusing, the characters are always the same. It just flat out works.

Story: 5 out of 5 This is one of the freshest ideas to come out in a while. Marcus did a great job making each issue self contained yet they all work together so well. I loved the episode format like it was a sitcom because I could not stop laughing.

Dying Breath: 5 out of 5 This series reminded me of Nextwave on that level of where did this come from? The ideas are fresh and the comedy is solid. When you get tired of your everyday hero drama a book like this is what you need. There is nothing serious about it. I am glad I was on board from the beginning because it was a great ride. Do yourself a favor and just check it out.
