Let me start off by saying, that anyone who knows me, knows I am a huge Bendis fan and an even bigger New Avengers fan. Whenever a bad crop of books comes out any given week, I know I can count on New Avengers for some entertainment. See keeping all of that in mind, "What the hell is the point of this book?"
It is obvious that Bendis loves Dr. Strange. Hey, so do I! And like Bendis apparently feels, I feel this character has been vastly underused over the years. But seriously, it seems as though every time Bendis needs a fall-back story he relies on a good ol' magical mishap involving the former Sorcerer Supreme. By doing this though, he:
1. Ignores ALL current 616 continuity and,
2. Creates a story that eventually does NOTHING but create opportunities for witty banter between characters.
So here we have Strange being accused of being at the root of the whole demonic problem in New York. Iron Fist falls from the sky, punches Strange in the face and demands answers. Like Danny Rand would EVER do this! What, did he find out Strange raped his mother? Ridiculous.
Very little happened in this issue. Many pages of action with witty quips thrown about, but ultimately we learned 3 things.
1. Daimon Hellstrom is more annoying than Paris Hilton, and needs a slap across the head from Thing.
2. Stephen Strange has mysteriously abused his powers; once again, and now everyone wants a piece of him.
3. Bendis cares as much about continuity as I care about current fashion trends in Mumbai.
I had actually placed this book in the religiously dedicated category that I keep Uncanny X-Men in. But a few more issues like this and I will drop this series faster than I dropped all the competition in the Infinity Challenge Tournament! ;)
