Honestly folks, I really gotta drop this title from my pull list. This is yet another issue where everyone is acting completely out of character and for some reason, Jeph Loeb feels the need to throw every Marvel Character at this book. That concept would be really awesome if there was a point to it all. We are now at Issue #8, and not a SINGLE THING has advanced the plot. We are still no closer to learning the identity of the Red Hulk. We still get no indication as to why Green Hulk is dumb again… and for some, really weird reason.. Bruce Banner has transformed into Joe Fixit and then into dumb Green Hulk in a single issue. Has this ever even happened before? I don’t know, but it didn’t make a lick of sense to me.
Like the previous issue, this one is divided into 2 separate stories. The first story’s art chores are handled by the great Arthur Adams. I haven’t been exposed to much of his work in the past, but I really dig his style. Great art, great coloring in this issue.
This first story has Hulk (Gray AND Green) in Las Vegas where Bruce Banner went to track some Wendigos. After the Wendigos surfaced, Banner turned into Gray Hulk and started taking care of business before being confronted by Sentry, Ms.Marvel and Moon Knight. That was last issue, this issue is the continuation of that. The Wendigos kinda take the back burner here as all we see is Hulk fighting the 3 other superheroes. That’s it. That’s all that happens.
The second story has She-Hulk and her Lady Liberators getting some payback on Red Hulk. We last left off where Red Hulk had She-Hulk dangling from a chain around her neck. So now, Valkyrie and Thundra need to come up with a plan to help their friend. So.. some fighting happens and that’s it. Nothing more exciting than that. The last panel will have you rolling your eyes. A “cavalry” arrives. Oh brother.. It’s like Loeb just shot darts at a list of characters and told Frank Cho to draw them in the last panel. Where the hell are all these people coming from? Aren’t they busy in their own titles, saving the world from an alien invasion?
Cho did his usual good work here. Nothing exceptional, his women are easy on the eyes as always. Although I find Frank is drawing his girls a little on the muscular side. I mean it works on She-Hulk and Thundra, but even his Sue Strom looks like an amateur body-builder. Ease up on the muscles Frank!
Bottom Line: NOTHING HAPPENED! .. nothing that matters anyway. It’s really starting to get annoying almost to the point where Loeb's work is discrediting everything that Greg Pak has done with Hulk. Greg, if you’re reading this.. no one will blame you for kicking Jeph in the crotch next time you see him.
Anywho.. another
2 out of 5 stars from me for this issue.
