Danny Rand, the Immortal Iron Fist, is at death's door and there seems to be nobody that can save him. Even the city of K'un-Lun appears ready to fall. But then, at the last second Iron Fist is able to summon enough of his chi to strike the deciding blow. Does this sound as cheesy as it read?
Now don't get me wrong, I am huge into cheese ball entertainment, especially when it relates to kung-fu. But this just irked me. Iron Fist is getting his can kicked up and down the pages for 3 straight issues by some guy named Zhou Cheng, who has killed his fair share of Iron Fists in the past. And when I say getting beat up, I mean he is taking the beating of a lifetime. Then all of a sudden, when all seems lost, he punches Cheng in the face and the fight is over! No secret weapon, no moment of enlightenment, no help from friends, nothing! I love Iron Fist but I don't buy this.
Unfortunately it feels like this book and this character is stuck on a bit of a treadmill. I just realized that I always leave Iron Fist as my last read every month. It is interesting me less and less. In fact, the thing I like the most about the book is one of his supporting characters, Fat Cobra. Who, by the way, saved all the Heroes for Hire from a bomb blast with his enormous girth!
Iron Fist is starting to fall into the same boat as Thor for me. I love K'un Lun, but it is time to move away from the mystical side of his character and focus on his interaction in the New York, Marvel Universe.
