*Lost and Found 1 of 12
Davis glanced in the rearview mirror at his boss. Romano was gazing out the window with a distant look in his eyes. What was he thinking about? Was he planning a hit, and leaving town to establish an alibi? Or was he going to Chicago for one of "The Family" meetings? Davis wanted to ask, but didn't. Romano didn't like answering questions.
Davis parked the Cadillac and pulled Romano's bags from the trunk. He escorted Romano as far as the security gate and, without exchanging words, the two men parted.
He waited to watch Romano's plane leave. He noticed a young blond in a revealing red dress who was also watching the planes. She was alone. Davis thought if he played his cards right he might be able to pick her up. The blond walked away from the window and Davis followed.
She walked to the baggage claim area. Davis considered his first move carefully. Most everyone had grabbed his bags and left. Davis decided he would ask her the time and then improvise a conversation. He approached the woman. A bald man in a suit steped in front of Davis and embraced the blond. The two chatted, picked a bag off the conveyor belt and left.
Davis turned to leave. Then realized no one had claimed the last item: A large footlocker with two big locks. His curiosity was piqued. What was so valuable that it required such heavy-duty locks? He slid the trunk onto a cart and rolled it out to the car.
