About Masters of the Universe Classics King Grayskull Box Set
King Grayskull was the first action figure to be released in the Masters of the Universe Classics line in 2008. He debuted at the 2008 San Diego Comic Con, where he was offered through Mattel as an exclusive item.
The character of King Grayskull first appeared in the third season episode "The Power of Grayskull" of the 2002 "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe" revisioned cartoon on Cartoon Network. While there are some differences to the character's bio and the continuity of the cartoon, the character looks true to his appearance in the cartoon.
His bio reads: *"Long before Prince Adam held the Sword of Power to become He-Man, his ancestor, King Grayskull defended Eternia from evil. Heroically mastering the secret power of his sword, Grayskull fought side-by-side with the cosmic warrior He-Ro against both the evil Hordak and King Hssss.
Although Grayskull eventually fell before Hordak’s magic, he was able to preserve his powers inside the sword, so that one day his descendants could reclaim the power and call upon Grayskull's name whenever evil threatens the peace of Eternia. To this day, Grayskull’s spirit remains hidden away deep inside the castle which will forever bear his name." *back of package
King Grayskull came in a unique box packaging that resembled Castle Grayskull, the classic MOTU playset that bears his name. Three versions of this figure exist: the standard version and a "statue" variant; both of which you don't know you're getting until you open the package. A third "Spirit" transparent figure was made, however, only two editions of this figure were offered to the public: one through a raffle at SDCC and the other through a charity auction for the Dream Halloween 2008 event.
