About Hulk 100 (Hero Initiative) Cover Project
The Hero Initiative, a non-profit organization that assists comic creators with financial assistance due to health or hardship, teamed up with Marvel Comics for a charity project in 2008 called the "Hulk 100" Project.
Printing special wraparound, blank, sketchable covers of Hulk (2008) #1, the Hero Initiative recruited many prominent artists in the comic book community to create one-of-a-kind sketched covers for each edition. Artists included Dale Keown, Alan Davis, Ed McGuinness, John Cassaday and Frank Cho just to name a few.
These covers traveled with the Hero Initiative to various comic book conventions in 2008 for display and eventually were auctioned off to individuals and private collectors online with the proceeds going to Hero Initiative.
A 136-page soft cover booklet featuring artwork from the Hulk 100 Project was also sold later that year. 500 Copies of this book were also created in Hardcover form.
There are blank unsketched copies of HULK (2008) #1 in existence. These were mostly given to individuals or organizations that assisted with the Hulk 100 Project in some capacity. The exact number of these white sketchable editions, whether sketched or not, are not known at the time of the writing of this bio.
The blank unsketched edition can be found as a variant to the first issue in the Hulk (2008) cover title.
There have been 3 such projects with Marvel at the time of this writing: Ultimate Spider-Man #100, Hulk #1, and Wolverine: Weapon X #1.
A 50 artist project with Archie Comics is currently in development.
