Not sure if we've ever done this before, but do you ever come across someone who pronounces a comic book character or creator name differently than you do, then you realize that you've been wrong all along?

I used to call Hank Pym "Hank (Pie)m" with a long "i." I've been calling him that forever. Then I saw an interview online with Joe Quesada and he calls him "Hank Pim" with a short "i." I honestly never knew that!

I've also heard people call Magneto, "Mag-net-o" rather than "Mag-neat-o" which I actually got right.

Any other pronunciation revelations?

I get this all the time with writers/artists names especially.

Chris Bachalo... I say it like 'batch-a-lo', but some people say it like 'back-a-lo' and I dont know which it is!?

The worst one is Kaare Andrews.. I say it as if its like 'care andrews'... is that how its meant to be said? I mean I can obviously say the Andrews part okay because my surname is also Andrews.

On the Hank Pym thing... Ive always said 'Pym' as if it sounds like the word 'pin' (ya know, as in safety-pin) but with an 'M' not an 'N'.
Ive always pronounced Magneto as if its 'Mag-neat-o'.... isnt that how it is?

I say "Chris Bok-a-lo." Kinda like Bach the classical musician.

I say "Kar" Andrews. Don't know if that's right.

You are correct with Magneto.

i've always pronounced Pym like 'him', Magneto like 'mag-NEAT-o', Bachalo like 'back-a-lo', Kaare like Jim Carey,. i used to pronounce Travis Charest 'chair-est' but someone told me it was 'share-ay'. for me, Bill Sinciewiecz was always 'sink-e-wix', but i heard a guy say 'sink-ev-itch' and i felt kinda silly. others that throw me: Maduriera & Djurdjevic. but honestly, i never was very motivated to research & find out the true pronounciations.

I actually know the correct pronunciation of Bill Sienkiewicz: "shen-KEV-itch." I knew a friend who had the same last name and that's how she pronounced it.

How about Submariner and Darkseid. I always said Sub-Mariner but have heard it's supposed to be Submarine-er and I also go with Dark-Side but have friends that say Dark-Seed. Another would be Ka-Zar. Is it Kay-Zar or Kaa-Zar?

The following stores are all stores that I've dealt with or have become friends with through the forums and I highly recommend them all.
Comics Castle-AKA Pat McCauslin
Alpha Comics--ComicVortex--Comic Cellar--Hall of Heroes--Swifty's Olde Tyme Comic Shoppe

I used to say "submarine-er" but I think it's actually "sub-mariner."

Darkside over Darkseed.

Kaa-zar over Kay-zar

Close, but it's actually pronounced Sin-KEV-itch. Here's his official site and he has a logo with the phonetic spelling.

That is a name I don't even try to say. I just say "That Daredevil guy I like". For the longest time I pronounced Mark "Miller" instead of Mark "Mil-Lar" till my LCS own one day laughed at finally told me. Honestly, I had never even noticed the "a" in his name.

LoL. It's funny you guys mention it, I always said "Dark-seed"! Are you sure it's "Dark-side"? The artist David Seidman is pronounced "Seed-man".

According to the Justice League cartoon and if I remember correctly from the old Super Friends cartoon, it's "Dark-side." That is funny about Seidman, because when looking at that, I would totally call him "seed-man."

Americans and Brits pronounce many MANY things different. Like that Oscar Wilde line about "two countries separated by a common language."

No, I'm not sure. That's how I'd heard it pronounced.
