Purhapse putting the day as the first of each month isn't always a good idea. If The comic is released on Free Comic Book Day 2007 for example, the date should appear as: 5/5/2007. And if it is a FCBD issue, then it should always show up as the first Saturday of May; if it is not then, it is too hard to tell what day it was released, unless you can check http://www.diamondcomics.com. But this information is only available for limited time. You can't check for a comic that was released four years ago.

I think the reasoning is not to have the ship date but the cover date. The day really doesn't matter just the month and the year. I think the only reason there is a day designation in the cover date area i.e 8/01/2007 is because thats the way they have it set up. Maybe CCL will just change it to month and year. Who knows.

Changing to a simple MM/YYYY format is supposedly in the works per CCL.

Bare in mind though, Diamond is flawed. I have come across several books that are released, but never been put on Diamond's shipping lists. Why? I dunno, but it's frustrated me to no end before in the past. They do seem to be 99.5% accurate but they do miss things sometimes.

Where do they get there information? Do the publishers provide them with shipping dates?

Yes, then Marvel releases a week (or month) later than they had promised... but Diamond doesn't always go back and change the release date to the new date. According to our LCS owner this happens a lot, especially with Marvel.
