Follow-up to the Questprobe series
Fanfare took a lot of grief from readers during volume one's ten-year run from 1982 - 1992 for using "inventory" stories that hadn't been used in other Marvel publications. But sometimes running old inventory stories helped to wrap up cliffhangers, as is the case here. The story in this issue is a Questprobe tale that was originally supposed to be printed sometime in early '86. Questprobe was a three-issue limited series printed in Aug. '84, Jan. and Nov. '85. The stories were written in conjunction with the release of computer games *designed by Scott Adams, developed and published by Adventure International and the first was originally released in 1984 for the Atari 800, Apple II, ZX Spectrum, Commodore 16 and Commodore 64 with the sequels being published each following year. The original plan was for a series of twelve games, but Adventure International's bankruptcy in 1985 brought a rapid and premature end to the line. The fourth title in the game series was to include the X-Men - this game was partly coded by Scott Adams but never saw the light of day as a published game, as Adventure International went bankrupt during its development in 1985. However, the story intended for issue #4 (featuring the X-Men) was published in Marvel Fanfare #33 (July '87). The events of the three Questprobe comic books and this Fanfare issue were later followed up on in the Quasar (1989 - 1994) series. This X-Men tale wraps up a lot of loose ends left in Questprobe (1984) #3 (Nov. '85).
