Not the Initiative, not Young X-Men, Avengers Academy.
When this series first launched I was skeptical, I picked up the first issue and stopped. I wasn’t a fan of Avengers Initiative, Not that Initiative was a bad series I was just Anti Registration and didn’t read Initiative or Mighty.
I’ve been reading the Avengers titles since Disassembled, with this most current shake up I’ve been collecting: Avengers, Secret & New but not Academy.
I visited a store out of state at Christmas time and they were having a sale and I was able to pick up Issues 1-7 at 40% off so I did.
After reading the first seven issue I’m hooked, in recent months I’ve been mulling over dropping my three monthly Avengers titles.
After reading Academy if I do drop my Avengers books I’ll be keeping Academy cause it’s by far the best of the three titles in my opinion.
If your not familiar with the book, it’s got an early Thunderbolts feeling to it. These kids thinks there going to be the next great Avengers team, turns out they’ve been recruited because there Psych tests show there most likely to turn into Super Villains.
The kids still have to deal with regular teen drama but they have powers.
It’s a fun idea, yes it’s been done multiple times (mostly with Mutant teams) but it works and that makes it fun.
Keep a close eye on Finesse, I think she’s gonna play a much bigger role in the series as it progresses.
It’s got great art and great writing, one of the issues has a review quote comparing academy to New/Young X-Men.
Since New X-Men is no more this will have to do, New X-Men being my favorite X title next to Uncanny. Also somewhere I read that Veil is a Mutant, I don’t know if it’s true but every Avengers team’s gotta have at least one mutant in the roster.
