"An Eye for an Eye"

Triangle 1993-16. Continued from Adventures of Superman (1987) #501 and continues in Superman: The Man of Steel #23.

While reading a copy of Newstime Guy Gardner learns that there are four individuals in Metropolis claiming to be Superman. Traveling to the east coast he finds and confronts the visor-wearing Superman in what he believes will be the first of four confrontations to discredit and possibly eliminate the pretenders to the name.

This new Superman has already shown no compunction about killing those he believes have perpetrated evil and does not take kindly to Gardner's assertion that he is not the real Superman.

In the ensuing battle Guy is thrown into a drugs for weapons deal and sees this "Superman" take out the criminals in a most brutal fashion. Gardner decides that if this isn't the real Superman, it's still the Superman he wants around.

This Superman is not impressed by Guy Gardner. When seeing Guy's televised endorsement of him the Kryptonian decides that perhaps there is a better way to protect justice. A way that would not appeal to one so base as Guy Gardner.
