"Up From the Depths!"
Plant creatures who can assume the form and take the memories of any human take over a S.H.I.E.L.D. base, kidnapping the President and Nick Fury. They are controlled by the Plant-Man. The Avengers have a funeral for Jocasta, who had died battling Ultron. Iron Man calls Avengers Mansion and abruptly resigns from the Avengers. Nick Fury and the President are part of a video sent to the White House, asking for ransom. They slip in code words asking for the Avengers to come to the rescue. Captain Marvel scouts ahead, finding Fury and the President. The Avengers break in. Once they find out that the captors are plant beings, they don't hold back in their attack. They free Fury and the President. Then, a huge plant being attacks. She-Hulk, Thor, and Captain Marvel are able to defeat it, just as Eros arrives. Eros announces that he's arrived to join the Avengers. Hawkeye seems less than thrilled. Plant-Man, unbeknownst to the Avengers, escapes in his sub.
