Iron Man and the new, improved Titanium Man battle in the skies over Washington DC. Titanium Man means to capture Iron Man's armor before Senator Byrd forces Tony Stark to give the armor's tech to the US Military. Happy Hogan and Pepper Potts watch with concern, and the Titanium Man sees a road to victory by capturing Pepper.
"The Maddening Mystery of the Inconceivable Adaptoid!"
Captain America relaxes in Avengers Mansion until he starts to suffer a series of delusions about seeing old allies and foes appear. Elsewhere, S.H.I.E.L.D. agents raid a lab belonging to A.I.M., and find technology similar to their Life Model Decoy androids (LMD's). Back at the Mansion, Cap finally succumbs, and we see that the A.I.M. creation is the Adaptoid, a creature who can mimic the traits of any person with whom it comes in contact, and now it has become Captain America himself.
