"Two Into One Won't Go!"
Cap, Sharon and Falcon escape from the other slightly crazy, racist, vicious Cap and his sidekick, Bucky. Steve waits until the private plane they're on, lands off Miami beach.
The bogus Cap & Bucky use the sinking of a Coast Guard launch to cover their tracks, but not before issuing a challenge to the man they believe to be a modern-day imposter.
Back in N.Y.C., suspended Sergeant Brian Muldoon and Patrolman Bob Courtney are busy rifling through Steve Rogers' personal effects at his apartment. They find no incriminating evidence linking Steve to Muldoon's frame for corruption.
Steve, Sharon and Falc fulfil their appointment with the deranged duo at the Torch of Friendship monument. Our heroes are waylaid by Bucky first, then the mad Cap.
Steve acknowledges this as the fight of his life. Here, he has to face a man who, driven by idol-worship and obsession, has become a dark mirror-image of himself.
The crazed warrior stuck in the political mores of 1950's America, addresses his opponent as if he's the imitation. When the truth dawns on him that he's up against the one and only, original Sentinel of Liberty, pseudo-Cap loses it completely. Abandoning any rational battle plan he launches himself, and collides with the biggest haymaker Steve Rogers has ever thrown in his life.
With the pair of cold-warriors defeated, Cap reflects that had circumstances been different in the 1940's he could have shared the same fate. "There but for the grace of God, go I", indeed.
