"The Coming of Conan!"
Conan, a young Cimmerian mercenary, fights for the Aesir in a raid on Vanaheim. In the battle, he saves the life of their leader, Olav, and routs the Vanir. The Vanir leader, Volff, seeing certain doom, abandons his men and stumbles across a shaman and a maiden Tara.
The shaman requires a lackey with a strong sword arm, and Volff promises that he will deliver Conan in return for mystical assistance. Winged demons kill Olav and capture Conan.
Tara explains that Conan is to be sacrificed to the shaman's star gem. In the process, the shaman sees visions of the past and future, including Conan's rise to King of Aquilonia.
Conan escapes, destroys the gem, and rescues Tara, only to learn that she is one of the winged demons, and that the gem was a portal to another dimension to which she must return.
