"White Apes and Ebon Thrones"
Conan steals his way into the palace of the Brythunian city of Kelbaza, past mystically guarded barriers with the purpose of slaying King Throll and stealing his mystic necklace. Conan does this to ransom his companion Isparana from the hands of the wizard Karlk. Conan has no intention of slaying the King, but as he finds the necklace, he is discovered by the King's sister, Thrine. Karlk enters to slay the woman, and Conan intercedes. Then, King Throll and his guard arrive, making both Karlk and Conan captive. Karlk escapes, and in a final fight, he reveals himself to be the Queen's brother, and something not entirely human. King Throll dies, as does Karlk, and Conan and Isparana make their escape.
