Conan's wanderings through the bleak Cimmerian hills bring him into a chance encounter with an old girlfriend, Caollan. Unfortunately for him, she is on the run from a Aesir hunting troupe, old mercenary comrades of Conan, but when he refuses to give up the girl, he makes himself their enemy. Also a flashback of Connacht's early days as a thief and adventurer.
