*In the aftermath of Liz Sherman's encounter with the inert homunculus, everyone fears the worst. Having gifted the creature with her 'spark of life', Liz's life is slowly fading. The hunt is on for the creature to see if the process can be reversed. Meanwhile, Hellboy and Kate Corrigan investigate a phenomenon in Romania, where cemeteries are being robbed of the freshly dead. Up on a nearby mountain-top, the creature later known as Roger descries his existence, wishing for an end. He is approached by another creature who claims to be his 'brother', telling Roger that both of them were created by the same alchemist, and that he has collected their creator's secrets, and plans for a great gift to the world.
