"The Master Assassin of Mars-- Chapter 10: Hide-'n'-Seek!"
John Carter introduces Tars Tarkas to the art of Guerilla warfare. After all, a soldier must at times employ guile on the battlefield. No sense going into battle, gung-ho and half-cocked. They pick off the Guild members so stealthily that they soon have the Assassins jumping at shadows. Poor babies.
Oblivious in Helium, Mors Kajak finds the time to frolic in the palace gardens with his lovely wife, Tara, totally unaware of the plotted coup against his royal family.
Skyward aboard the air-barge, John finally comes face-to-face with the Master Assassin, Tal Mordin. Swords clang together, steel on steel, but the two are evenly matched. Mordin utilises skullduggery and leads John out onto the open deck, filled with waiting Assassins.
Tars is on hand to save John's bacon for the umpteenth time. Brave brothers-in-arms battle back the tide of Assassin rabble until the Radium cartridges the Green Martian had planted earlier ignite upon exposure to the rising sun. With chaos reigning all around, JC and Tars take their leave of the rapidly descending air-barge.
Curious Kantos Kan reconnoitres the palace's underground dungeon just as the salivating Ulsios gather their collective courage to pounce on Dejah. Radium pistol fire scatters the Martian rodents, as big as Earth dogs, and they soon scurry back to their hidey-holes. Dejah should be safe to tell her family of the intended attack on Helium's ruling seat, but Surbus has returned with a squad of Assassins backing him.
