The Commando squad reveals that the Shi'Ar want the Phoenix dead and everyone who shares her genes and that's why the Grey's are all but dead. But the X-Men are not finished as the rest of the team arrives to fight the commandos to a standstill but there is one last casualty of this battle, Elaine Grey, mother of Jean is killed before the commandos retreat. Scott can not bare the grief of loosing his in-laws.
