Officer Rick Grimes, injured in the line of duty, awakes from a coma to find that nearly everyone is dead in his town. On his way home, he finds Morgan Jones and his son, Duane, who fill in the awakened officer. Grimes finds out that most of the surviving population has relocated to the major cities, so Grimes goes off to find his family.
