StormWatch has tracked down the WildC.A.T.s, who they believe are responsible for Battalion's death. But their conflict, which has been set up by Lord Defile, must be set aside when Void learns of an ancient Daemonite key that had been found by Deathblow years before.
Half of the key is now in the possession of Dr. Charles Russell, an acquaintance of Savant. Before it is unveiled in a new museum exhibit, Hightower manages to steal it. When the WildC.A.T.s return to their base, they find the Daemonite waiting for them.
