*The Interman Project was created in the early 1960’s. Five NATO nations sought a way to make their citizens able to survive nuclear fallout, and Major Wm. Marcy brought in Dr. Vance Sirraman to head the operation. Genetic samples were gathered from around the globe during mass polio vaccinations, and a distinguished team of international scientists relocated to the wilds of Wyoming to begin work.
Sirraman soon realized the goal was impossible. To keep the project alive, he promised the military overseers a new end: a force of operatives able to adapt to any environment or threat. These Intermen would be able to see in the dark, breathe underwater, and learn combat skills and new languages rapidly. After approval the project began anew, and six years later, the first success was born.
A week later, the project was sabotaged. All of the other fertile samples ready to be gestated were destroyed. The time and money needed to reproduce the work were deemed a waste, and the project was closed down.
Project scientist Richard Keele brought in the Meach family to adopt the created infant. The parents were given a monthly payment for the care of young Van and instructed to keep reports on his development and ability.
Focused on the Vietnam War, the Pentagon soon lost interest in the one product of Interman. Major Marcy left the Army to distance himself from this career failure, and joined the CIA.
Modern Day: an accountant cutting military waste finds the Meach family stipend still continuing after 30+ years, and brings it to the attention of Marcy, now CIA Director. With this chapter of his life reopened, Marcy fears what his creation may have become. Intelligence finds out little except that Meach has been taking high-paying secretive jobs around the globe. Meach appears to be a “messenger” (Secret Service lingo for hired killers) or mercenary. As well as a likely security threat, he’s also proof that currently forbidden genetic manipulation was carried out by the government years ago. The original member nations of Interman agree to send out their own messengers to close the project once and for all.
The person with the most to fear is Van Meach… who isn’t a killer, knows little of his past, and has no idea why everyone wants him dead. Can he actually adapt to a hostile world?
And is he the only Interman…?
