Issue Spotlight
THE MIRROR UNIVERSE
We focus on the black-hearted, double-dealing denizens of a universe a heartbeat from our own, as we celebrate the worlds created by Jerome Bixby’s classic “Mirror, Mirror”. A unique timeline chronicles all the key events in the various different versions, and we talk with producer Robert Hewitt Wolfe about DS9’s trips through the looking glass...
Features
PASSING THE TORCH
Star Trek’s elder statesman Leonard Nimoy tells us how and why he was tempted back to the role of Spock after 18 years, and why making the new movie has been such a joy. “I was pleased and flattered that they had chosen to do a story where Spock was so significant. We had had several projects prior to this where Spock had been marginalized and I wasn’t particularly happy about that. I found in this film that Spock comes back into focus in a very wonderful way... I was very comfortable working with J.J. I trusted him completely.”
NANA VISITOR
In this issue’s revealing interview Nana Visitor reveals her ideas for Deep Space 9’s finale “What You Leave Behind” and how they tied in to one of the most interesting roles of her career, the bisexual Intendant of Terok Nor. “I always felt that we should find out that the person we think is Kira, left running the station as everyone’s going away, is actually the Intendant. That would have been perfect. All the mischief and havoc she could have created while letting everyone think she’s Kira? That would have been a lot of fun.”
STAR TREK: REMASTERED
Our special look behind the scenes of the Star Trek Remastered project concludes in the latest issue, as the producers explain some of the choices they made – including why Kirk’s tombstone continued to read ‘James R. Kirk.’ “I know that a lot of fans wanted us to change the initial ‘R’ to a ‘T.’,” Denise Okuda recalls. “I was willing to go along with it, but I was not-so-secretly pleased when scheduling issues made it impossible to change all those shots.”
