Top 10 Villains
They're the characters we love to hate, who have battled with the Star Trek crews for the past 45 years. We celebrate the highlights, from Kang and Khan in the original series to Nero in the latest movie, with previously unseen pictures, quotes from the actors who created them and a complete rundown of their on and off screen appearances.
Art for Art's Sake Part I
The first of two exclusive supplements to November's Star Trek: The Art of the Film from Titan Books provides all-new pictures, never seen before, and not included in the book. Marvel at the original concept for Delta Vega, sketches for the Vulcan cities, paintings of the Bridge of the U.S.S. Enterprise and much more... “Every department involved some kind of design work, some kind of sketch, to hone in on what the final element was going to look like,” book author Mark Cotta Vaz explains. “The art department, and ILM in this particular case, then had to take those designs and make them ‘real’...”
Nicholas Meyer interview
The famed writer and director of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, and co-writer of Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, reminisces about his time in the 23rd Century in the latest issue. "Truthfully I can’t say that I predicted anything like Khan's preeminence, or anything like the stature which has been accorded The Wrath of Khan as a total construct. Never. I did know as I was watching Montalban in his first scenes in the cargo bays that I was watching a very great actor, and I had had no idea."
Answering Your Queries
In a very special edition of our readers' letters section Communicator, Star Trek writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman answer your queries raised by the recent movie. Discover why the Enterprise was built in Iowa rather than in outer space as previously believed and how Jim Kirk managed to beat Spock's Kobayashi Maru test. Learn why Spock threw Kirk off the ship rather than put him in the brig, and what Nero was doing in the 25 years between the attack by the U.S.S. Kelvin and the destruction of Vulcan. And just what did happen to Jim Kirk's older brother George?
