Gabriel, the Balance of Judgment, or Remiel; he is an avatar, the living embodiment of a starship who has deftly managed to entrap former lover Rommie (herself an avatar) within her own, outwardly-controlled body. It's all part of a diabolical political plan to reactivate the Restorian movement, a cause that seeks to wipe out entire civilizations. Helping an understandably perplexed Captain Hunt along the way is his temporary avatar, Hector, eventually a victim of the renegade humanoid.
