Meaning of name: Parallel crested reptile
Curious-looking Parasaurolophus belonged to the species Hadrosaur (Trachodon is also a member of this group). A gentle plant-eating creature, he lived only in North America. The impressive crest on his head is made up of two hollow tubes, one on top and the other joined at the far end. The front end of these tubes link up with the nostrils. Similar to a trombone, this crest might have been used to produce a highly distinctive 'hooting' sound. * Source: back of card
