Cover Art of Sandman (1989) #23.
*Morpheus enters the gates of Hell, encountering no opposition. Reaching Nada's cell, he finds it vacant. He confronts Lucifer, who offers no resistance. Having grown to see his ancient "rebellion" as just another obliging detail of the Grand Scheme, Lucifer is weary of his role. He quits. Hell is closed, its tenants evicted. But one more piece of business remains: Lucifer once swore an oath to destroy Morpheus. In that spirit, he gives the Dream Lord the key to Hell. Perhaps owning Hades will destroy Morpheus, perhaps it won't... but, Lucifer explains, it certainly won't make his life any easier. *Source: Back of card
