*In 1789, Lady Johanna Constantine tried and failed to capture Morpheus, thinking him a demon; five years later, he retained her to recover the living head of Orpheus. Reports from the period place her in Egypt, hunted as a witch; in Louisiana, where she was involved in a slave scandal; in Russia, where she was linked to the theft of certain papers from the imperial court. She was believed to be schooled in the arts of espionage, cross-dressing, and magic. She dies in 1859, at the age of 99, and was buried beside the temple of a grateful Orpheus. *Source: Back of card
