*When Orpheus' bride was killed on their wedding day, he resolved to rescue her, ignoring his father Morpheus' advice to simply mourn her and go on. He persuaded Death to relinquish any claim upon him and, thus empowered, invaded the underworld. He failed to rescue his bride and was later beheaded, but he could not die. Many centuries later, Morpheus arranged for his son's head to be kept in a secret temple, attended by devotees.
