*The angels ordered Shade to kill his child at birth wanting its body as a vessel for their chosen one. Shade refused, and desperately searched for a way to defeat the angels by making a deal with the devil. The devil contrived for Kathy to be shot, and Shade watched as she died shortly after childbirth. Shade abandoned the child, presuming the angels had succeeded. Unable to die but unwilling to live, Shade is forced to dig up the dirt of his old wrongdoings in order to be reborn as a mad-mod-poet-god.
