About G.I. Joe: Sgt Savage and the Screaming Eagles (4")
In 1995, Hasbro introduced this 4" line of fully poseable figures as a companion to their already wildly-popular 3 and 3/4" collection of G.I.Joe.
Set loosely in the same fictional universe and continuity of the regular G.I.JOE storyline, the line featured Sgt. Robert Steven Savage, a fallen World War II soldier who is cryogenically frozen in 1944 and reawakens 50 years later near the end of the 20th century. Savage joins the G.I.Joe team and rebuilds a special unit called "The Screaming Eagles".
Almost all of the packaging artwork for this line, including the card backs as well as the vehicle packaging and mini-comics included with some of the toys were drawn by legendary comic artist Joe Kubert, who helped design the look of the characters.
Outfitting the unit with modified World War II vehicles and new technology, Sgt Savage and the Screaming Eagles fought General Blitz and his organization: the IRON ARMY.
The toyline never managed to get off the ground for possibly many reasons, and was cancelled after a year.
The character of Sgt Savage returned in the short-lived "G.I.Joe Extreme" toyline.
