About Star Wars: Droids 3 3/4" Action Figures
Kenner's DROIDS line of action figures and vehicles are based off of the animated series that aired in 1985-1986.
The animated cartoon starred C3PO and R2-D2 in misadventures preceding STAR WARS: A NEW HOPE with both all-new characters as well as some familiar ones making appearances. In the series, Threepio and Artoo travel to different locations around the STAR WARS animated universe with different masters and find themselves in constant trouble...yet always helping save the day in the end.
There were many secondary characters and vehicles that did not make it into the DROIDS line. Vlix, one of the final figures produced, was only released in limited quantities in Brazil. Many collectors consider the artwork on Vlix's Brazillian card to be far superior than the regular line.
Images can be found in research of this line to support that had the series continued, almost a dozen figures would have been added to the DROIDS line-up as well as one vehicle, "The White Witch", a fan-favorite vehicle used in one story arc of the animated series.
Marvel's STAR COMICS imprint created a comic of the same name that lasted 8 issues, with the last few issues of the comic book retelling part of the STAR WARS films from the viewpoint of C-3PO and R2-D2.
