This is the format:

Straight up pick the winner. No point spread except in the Beat the Spread category.

TOP 25 - One game featuring two teams ranked in the Top 25 (10 pts if you are correct)

INTER CONFERENCE - One game featuring teams from two different Conferences (10 pts if you are correct)

INTRA CONFERENCE - One game featuring two teams from the same Conference (10 pts if you are correct)

RANDOM - One game featuring two teams that I picked randomly (10 pts if you are correct)

BEAT THE SPREAD - This will be a game that has a ridiculous gambling spread number. You predict Over/Under (10 pts if you are correct)

FCS GAME OF THE WEEK - One game featuring teams from the FCS (Football Championship Subdivision) that I select. (10 pts if you are correct)

Each week I will post 6 choices: the Top 25, Intra Conference, Inter Conference, Random, Beat the Spread and FCS Game of the Week match ups. Your picks have to be in before the games start

Base total you can accumulate per week would be 60 if you get all 6 picks correct

Yup.

Everyone got their scorecard for conference affiliations? Even I won't be able to keep up with the Big 12 over the next few years.

In the not too far away future there will probably only be 2 Mega Conferences left - each with 50 teams. Ooh Shame on You

I'm not necessarily opposed to that. Well, maybe the 50 teams each part, because I don't think there are more that 70 teams that really fit into the top tier.

And I think that the larger conference model will be able to bring back the smaller, regional feel of times past. Two big conferences, each with 4 divisions of 6-8 teams, and all of the division champs go to the playoffs. The conference championship games will be the semi-finals.

Welcome to the 2022 football season and the Brent Pry era of Virginia Tech football. A new coach who has ties to our past, and can embrace the culture and history, but still be able to build on it and move us into the future. (But we can't Invent The Future anymore, because the university dropped that as our motto a few years ago.) More importantly, I won't be calling for a coordinator's job this season.

Fun story, my dad and I got to chat briefly with Coach Pry during a VT event at a local brewery, and got pictures with him and surprise guest, former VT DC Bud Foster. It works out because my dad just built an external garage with a mancave attached, and of course he painted the walls maroon and orange. Now we just have to get his TV and/or internet working out there.

On to the picks:

TOP 25 - #2 Ohio State (BIG10) vs #5 Notre Dame (Independent-ish)
I think home field advantage will be the edge here.

INTER CONFERENCE - Florida State (ACC) vs LSU (SEC) (Sunday)

INTRA CONFERENCE - Boston College @ Miami (ACC)

RANDOM - #11 Oregon (PAC12) @ #3 Georgia (SEC)

BEAT THE SPREAD - #1 Alabama (SEC) vs Utah State (MWC) (+41.5)
No. Alabama will win, but not by this margin.

FCS GAME OF THE WEEK - Georgetown Hoyas (Patriot League) vs. Marist Red Foxes (Pioneer Football League)
I'm purely going with the team that I've actually heard of.

TOP 25 - #2 Ohio State (BIG10) vs #5 Notre Dame (Independent-ish) Not a fan of either of these teams but I guess I'll go for the favorite. OSU

INTER CONFERENCE - Florida State (ACC) vs LSU (SEC) (Sunday) Florida State looks a little better this year but I'll still go SEC. So, LSU.

INTRA CONFERENCE - Boston College @ Miami (ACC) Kind of seems like a toss up so I'll give the edge to the home team. Miami

RANDOM - #11 Oregon (PAC12) @ #3 Georgia (SEC) I think that Oregon has a chance but gotta go chalk. Georgia

BEAT THE SPREAD - #1 Alabama (SEC) vs Utah State (MWC) (+41.5) Absolutely "Bama will beat the spread. Satan will probably have his starters play into the 4th quarter to make sure.

FCS GAME OF THE WEEK - Georgetown Hoyas (Patriot League) vs. Marist Red Foxes (Pioneer Football League) I like Georgetown because I used to party there occasionally but I was also a big fan of Sanford and Son so GO Red Foxxes!

Well, first screw up of the season.

Miami is not playing Boston College today, they are in fact playing Bethune-Cookman. You know, the other BC. Tongue

So it looks like that one is going to be null and I need to make an appointment with my eye doctor.

Was he the one who burgled the locker room? Silly

Seriously though, why wasn't there a security guard or someone keeping an eye on it? Sounds kind of dumb.

TOP 25 - #2 Ohio State (BIG10) vs #5 Notre Dame (Independent-ish) Ohio State 21 Notre Dame 10

INTER CONFERENCE - Florida State (ACC) vs LSU (SEC) (Sunday) Florida State 24 Louisiana State 23

RANDOM - #11 Oregon (PAC12) @ #3 Georgia (SEC) Georgia 49 Oregon 3

BEAT THE SPREAD - #1 Alabama (SEC) vs Utah State (MWC) (+41.5) Alabama 55 Utah State 0

FCS GAME OF THE WEEK - Georgetown Hoyas (Patriot League) vs. Marist Red Foxes (Pioneer Football League) Georgetown 42 Marist 12

Everyone got the Buckeyes to beat the Irish (I did pick ND plus the points on another pool I'm in Big Grin ), no one expected LSU's special teams to completely melt down against the Seminoles, we all got Georgia who curb stomped the Ducks, Jeremy and I got 'Bama steamrolling the Utes and I was the only big dummy to pick the Red Foxes to beat the Hoyas - which they did not. Tongue

jbeeman85 - 40
bluedevil2002 - 30
MoonKnight1 - 30

Skyhawks sound more vicious.

I would like to point out that this week's trip to Texas is Alabama's first true road non-conference game since 2011.

WEEK 2

TOP 25 - #10 Baylor (BIG12) vs #25 BYU (Independent) Thinking about BYU but will play safe and go Baylor

INTER CONFERENCE - Duke (ACC) vs Northwestern (BIG10) This isn't basketball - NWU

INTRA CONFERENCE - Western Michigan @ Ball State (MAC) I going with Dave Letterman's alma mater - Ball State

RANDOM - UTSA Roadrunners (Conference USA) @ Army Black Knights (Independent) It's a long way from San Antonio to West Point and roadrunners can't fly that far so Army.

BEAT THE SPREAD - #8 Michigan (BIG10) vs Hawai'i (MWC) (+48.5) NO, I think that Hawai'i will only lose by about 37

FCS GAME OF THE WEEK - University of Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks (Ohio Valley Conference) @ Missouri State Bears (Missouri Valley Conference) Missouri is hungry for revenge after getting knocked out of the playoffs last year by the Skyhawks so I'm looking for a big win by the home team Bears!

Well, every game on our slate was extremely close. Even Michigan Hawai'i was only 2.5 points off the spread.

We were all wrong on our unanimous picks - BYU beat Baylor (26-20), Duke won over Northwestern (31-23), The Roadrunners defeated the Black Knights (41-38).

I was the only one to have picked Ball State who lost to Western Michigan 37-30. I was also the only one to pick Missouri State who won over the University of Tennessee- Martin (35-30). I also chose NO on the points spread which was 48.5 and Michigan beat Hawai'i 56-10 for only a 46 points margin. So close!

jbeeman85 - 40 + 10 = 50
MoonKnight1 - 30 + 20 = 50
bluedevil2002 - 30 + 10 = 40
