Title Bio
One of the longest running comic book titles in history. The title started as "New Comics," and after 11 issues became known as "New Adventure Comics" before settling on "Adventure Comics" with issue #32.
The title was generally an anthology series, featuring several different characters throughout its run.
Sandman (Wesley Dodds) #40-102 Hourman (Rex Tyler) #48-83 Starman (Ted Knight) #61-102 Shining Knight #66-166 Manhunter (Paul Kirk) #73-92 Genius Jones #77-102 Superboy #103-345, 453-458 Johnny Quick #103-207 Aquaman #103-284, 435-466, 475-478 Green Arrow #103-269 Congo Bill #270-283 Bizarro #285-299 Legion of Super-Heroes #300-380, #516-529 Supergirl #381-424 Zatanna #413-422 Captain Fear #425-433 Black Orchid #428-430 Spectre #431-440 Creeper #445-447 Deadman #459-466 Flash (Barry Allen) #460-466 Starman (Prince Gavyn) #467-478 Plastic Man #467-478 Dial "H" for Hero #479-490 Challengers of the Unknown #493-497 Among many others.
With issue #491 Adventure Comics became Digest sized and featured primarily reprints of other stories until its end with issue #503.
Adventure comics was resurrected in 2009 with a brand new series featuring the Legion of Super-Heroes, with numbering beginning at #1 which ran for 12 issues (plus a #0 issue). Each of these 12 issues had a variant cover which continued the numbering from the original Adventure Comics series. After issue #12, that title dropped its new numbering and resumed the numbering Adventure Comics (1938) with issue #516. From that point, Adventure comics continued to feature the Legion until the series' end in 2011.
Adventure Comics was responsible for many first appearances, most notably the Legion of Super-Heroes with issue #247.
