The Inhuman Royal Family members are suspicious of Black Bolt's motives for imprisoning Maximus in a sealed stasis tank. When Black Bolt leaves the Great Refuge to scout for a new home for his people, his flight leads him to America. San Francisco, in particular.

Karnak and Gorgon, fearing that their ruler intends to break their age-old traditions to never kill another Inhuman, attempt to free Maximus. A combined assault on the chamber has the joint effect of reviving Maximus and activating his latent mental powers. A powerful psionic bolt is transmitted halfway across the globe, seeking out its designated target. The brain blast strikes home and Black Bolt completely loses his memory.

Natasha's chauffeur, Ivan saves a teenager's life. Events transpire that night to engender an ironic turnabout.
