In 1946, an alien bomb is detonated above New York, releasing a virus that changed the world forever. 90% exposed die, 9% mutate into deformed creatures (Jokers) and 1 % gain superpowers (Aces) Today, an ace known as "The Sleeper," is blamed for the murder of a young nurse in Jokertown. Meanwhile a group of teenagers in Colorado accidentally activate the dormant Wild Card Virus, causing the entire town of Whiteoak be exposed to the virus.
