Gamers hoping for more Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe crossover chaos suffered another blow courtesy of developer Ed Boon's Twitter page this week. After confirming last month that he was working on a superhero-free, fatality-fueled Mortal Kombat 9, the series creator yesterday closed the door on the possibility of downloadable content for last year's comic book crossover.
Who decided resting their fists on their hips was an imposing stance?
"Excited about MK9 and [new Midway owner] WB, but wish we could have released DLC for MKvsDC," Boon wrote on his Twitter page, along with a link to a promotional render of Quan Chi, one of the Mortal Kombat characters who would have been downloadable. While publisher Midway never formally detailed its plans for downloadable roster add-ons, Boon brought the issue up on his Twitter page several times.
In February, the developer noted that he was balancing the damage on a low fireball attack for impish Superman villain Mr. Mxyzptlk. Late last month, Boon said work on Quan Chi and Batman villain Harley Quinn was all but done, "but then the [sic] sky fell and now they are in limbo."
Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe originally launched on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in November 2008 and featured a roster of 22 playable characters, 11 from each side of the conflict. For more on the fighter, check out GameSpot's Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe review.
