Let's face it:
MAX MAX: FURY ROAD is probably the breakout hit movie of the summer that NOONE saw coming. And I didn't even know there was a MAD MAX comic book until after it's release. Upon more research I learned there was a number of MAD MAX books being published under DC's
VERTIGO imprint this summer. It took me several trips to different comic shops to locate a copy of
NUX & IMMORTAN JOE #1 (guessing no one knew how popular this film was gonna be so no one ordered it) so I finally got a chance to sit down and read it.
If you haven't seen the movie yet (go see it), you're probably not going to have ANY idea who NUX or THE IMMORTAN JOE are. Both are supporting characters in the film. The origins of both are told in narrative form set in the background landscape of the film. While NUX's origin isn't really surprising at all, Immortan Joe's tale is a lot more intriguing. Showing how he claimed Citadel for himself years prior during the collapse of civilization, the story is much more interesting than I would have expected from a movie tie-in comic.
Collectors: With all the hype still surrounding the film, and the under-printed nature of the book, it's probably a good idea if you go out and get a copy or three of this book NOW. Especially with the FURIOSA follow-up title coming out soon...fans and collectors alike will be going back to find this issue.
Long story short: make sure you go get a copy of this comic.
