I was personally not a fan of bringing Barbara back as Batgirl. I thought that Cassandra Cain was a very good Batgirl, and that Stephanie Brown, as her replacement, was starting to come into her own with DC did their "it's not a reboot" reboot.
That said, I grew into new stories about Barbara as Batgirl. I think this new direction, however, is weak. They really didn't give a good reason for the change. I think the new writers tried too hard to give her "current" lingo (the term "bae" is used, for God's sake). The new costume, while it would look good on Stephanie doesn't look right on Barbara.
They've de-aged her to 21 (or lied about her age in this issue), but the new art makes her look like she's 12, and that's BEFORE the teeny-bopper outfit. And, in this issue, she used what I consider bad judgment, especially for a character that's been so deeply ingrained as being remarkably serious.
It's just a wrong direction, and a wrong creative team. I think the new artist can do some fabulous pin-up work. The incentive cover is very nicely drawn (although it's on the wrong Batgirl), but her interior art was too cluttered, and again, she looks way too young.
