Marvel at its Best was EPIC!!!

The premier issue of Epic Illustrated magazine was an eye opener for me; it verified the power of comics as an instrument of artistic communication at a grand scale. I remember reading each issue between my University studies and I rejoiced with every new issue and I was saddened by its demise. Why take away what was best in Marvel and what constituted a vehicle for new and old talent to emerge to the grander audience of the mature reader. But the market place must have spoken for I see no other reason for its demise.

The Silver Surfer story, full of existential questions and simple answers; reach within to find the only meaningful answer. To revisit Elfquest and see Petalwing and the other preservers help young lovers be together for an eternity. Visit strange worlds and immerse yourself in a science fiction story in Awake where the illustrations are self aware. How about The Next 60 Seconds where you feel the Cold War tapping your shoulder, and Jim Starlin’s crown achievement The Metamorphosis Odyssey.

Reading Epic Illustrated is a treat this many years after publication because the stories transcend time.
